Funeral of Mrs. Louisa Withee To Be Held Tuesday

Widow of Pioneer Lumberman Expires in Minneapolis and Will be Buried Here

Funeral Services for Mrs. Louisa A. Withee, who died in Minneapolis May 21, at the home of her son, N.H. Withee, Jr., are to take place at the grave in Oak Grove cemetery, at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Until noon Tuesday friends who wish may call at the L.H. White funeral home, 220 Main. Services will be conducted by Rev. Bremicker, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, of which Mrs. Withee was a member 50 years.

Mrs. Withee was the wife of Niram H. Withee, pioneer lumberman of Wisconsin and resident of La Crosse from 1851 until the time of his death in 1887. She was born in 1842, in New Berlin, N.Y., and removed with her parents, Mr. And Mrs. Artemus Wood, to Lewis Valley, Wis., in 1854. In 1868, she was married to Mr. Withee and lived in La Crosse until about ten years ago.

There were born three sons: N.H. Withee, Jr., living in Minneapolis; W.W. Withee of Los Angeles, California, and Theodore O. Withee of Conrad, Mont. A sister, Mrs. Helen A. Manville, who died some years ago in Buenos Aires, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles A. Pope, and is buried in La Crosse. In recent years Mrs. Withee has lived in Greenwood, Wis., Portland, Ore., and Minneapolis. For several months she has been an invalid in her Minneapolis home.

For 50 years Mrs. Withee had been a member of the First Presbyterian church of La Crosse, and all through her life in this city was active in social and church affairs. She was one of the leaders in the foundation of the La Crosse hospital and a generous contributor to its support.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Sundseth chapel, Minneapolis, by Rev. Dr. John E. Bushnell, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian church. Mr. And Mrs. Withee came down from Minneapolis Monday night for the services on Tuesday.
