J.C. Withee Kills Himself

Body Was Found Hanging to Rafter in the Barn Monday Morning

The troubles of Mr. J. Chamberlain Withee have come to an abrupt termination, his lifeless body having been found yesterday morning swinging at the end of a rope attached to a rafter in the barn of his home, 88 Elm street. He probably killed himself some time Sunday night, as the body was discovered by his daughter shortly after 8 o’clock, Monday morning.

The deceased was 85 years, 10 months and 29 days old, and moved to Bangor when a young man from Kennebec county, where he was born. He peddled rags in Bangor for many years, and during the past ten years has been supported by his son and daughter. Last summer he tried to end his life by cutting his throat.

He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Ruel Carter of Bradley and Mrs. Cora Witham of Elm Street.
