Alzada Withee, Retired Teacher, Dead at 87
The death of Miss Alzada Carrie Withee, 87, of 71 Holland Street, one of Bangor’s oldest retired school teachers, occurred at the residence Tuesday afternoon following a brief illness.
She was a teacher in the Bangor schools for 47 years.
Born in Bangor, November 27, 1872, she was the daughter of Simion W. and Mary M. (McCoy) Withee. She was educated in the Bangor schools, and studied at Columbia University.
Miss Withee taught school in Glenburn and Milford, and at the Cottage Street and Mary Snow Schools in Bangor. She was a charter member of the Bangor Teachers’ Club, the National Educational Association, and the First Baptist Church of Bangor.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
