Inez Bell Wethey
1895-1989


Inez Bell Wethey, 94, a former resident of Ithaca and Port Byron, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 1989 in the Clearwater, Fla. area where she had made her home for the last few years.

She was born in Port Byron, the daughter of the late Willard and Gertrude Bell Wethey. After teaching school in the area, working in Syracuse at Caldwell and Sons and Investor’s Research Bureau, she spent 15 years in New York City working for the Greater New York Federation of Churches. In the late 1940s, she came upstate to work as secretary in the Department of Housing and Design at Cornell University, until retirement.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Mrs. Howard (Lois) Wethey; two nephews; Ernest Wethey of Clearwater, Fla. and Lyman Wethey of Port Byron; two nieces; Mrs. Matthew (Kathryn) Schnur of Canastota, and Miss Ruth Wethey of Port Byron; and several great nephews and great nieces.

She was predeceased by two brothers; George Wethey of Weedsport and Howard E. Wethey of Port Byron, and a sister, Mrs. George Sibley(Edna) Corfield of Lincoln, Neb.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Port Byron United Methodist Church on South Street with the Rev. George Craik and the Rev. Matthew Schnur officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Port Byron.

Contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Port Byron United Methodist Church.
