Harold Bissett Butterfield, former Stafford Springs resident and retired civil engineer with the New Haven, New York and Hartford Railroad, died Monday in Pine Plains, N.Y., after a long illness. He was 78.
He was employed with the railroad a number of years in Hartford and later at the office in Pine Plains, where he lived. He was born in Stafford Springs, son of the late Henry and Mary Ohl Butterfield and attended the Stafford schools leaving here as a young man to live in Hartford. While a resident of Stafford Springs, he attended Grace Episcopal Church. He retired from the railroad a number of years ago. He served as judge of the civil court in Pine Plains for a number of years.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Blanche Peck Butterfield; five sisters, Miss Doris Butterfield, of Pine Plains, Mrs. Helen Jenkin and Mrs. Marion Wooley, both of Wethersfield, Mrs. Hazel Gorham of Milford and Mrs. Ruth Young of Union; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and burial will be held today in Pine Plains.
