Nathan Quivey

Biography
Nathan left West Springfield, Massachusetts for Pittsford, Vermont where his Uncle Caleb Hendee was residing in about 1795. On February 21st of that year he purchased some land in Pittsford from Moses Olmstead. Evidently a strong friendship between Nathan and Moses ensued for a child from each man, Addison M. Quivey and Teresa Olmstead, ended up marrying one another and are direct ancestors. Nathan moved to Genesee and then Northampton, New York sometime between 1705-1799 and there married a Dutch girl by the name of Catherine (Kate) Hart.
When the War of 1812 broke out, Nathan became an ensign in the 161st Regiment of the Genesee County Militia. Soon thereafter he moved his family eastward to German Flats where Joseph S. Quivey was born in 1814. By 1824, Nathan and his family were living in Meigs County Ohio. As can be seen, Nathan decided to drop the "Mc" from his surname.
